What makes these books different from other children’s picture books?

They look different because they are different. Every illustration is hand-painted in watercolor, not generated, not outsourced, not manufactured to a formula. The aesthetic stands apart on a shelf, and that’s intentional. These are books that look like someone made them, because someone did.

What age are they for?

They’re written for early readers, roughly 4–8, but they work well as read-alouds for younger kids too. They started as bedtime stories made up on the spot, so that’s kind of the point.

What’s it like to actually read one with a child?

It depends on the night. Some nights the story prompts a question, a thought, or a “but why did he do that?” Other nights it’s just quiet and soothing before sleep. Both are good outcomes.

Are these good gifts for grandchildren?

Yes — and here’s why they work especially well as gifts. Even though the books are available on Kindle and Red Runner is a vehicle that travels where other vehicles don’t, the stories are about real interactions between people. Not screens, not technology, just a little kindness, a little curiosity, and wide open spaces. That travels well across generations.

Do you have to start with Book 1?

No. Each book stands on its own. There are callbacks across the series, but they don’t affect your ability to follow any individual story. You can start wherever feels right. They are all available on Amazon.
